Trey Songz - Ready (Album Review)

Trey Songz has always been a more hip-hop influenced R&B singer, but Ready might be the most soul Trey Songz has ever exhibited on an album. At the very least, it is more complete than Trey Day could have ever been, and there are even a few gems beyond the trademark sex jams that Trey is known for.

The album is front loaded with radio ready singles and funny sex stories that are either hit or miss depending who you ask. “Neighbors Know My Name” should be familiar to anyone who has ever made love in an apartment or college dorm room, and “Invented Sex” boasts of Trey’s bedroom skills with some assistance from newcomer Drake. “LOL :-)” is borderline awful, but also catchy enough to get stuck in your head for days. Gucci Mane and Soulja Boy are clearly here to help market this album to a younger generation, but then again, why are we marketing sex to a younger generation in the first place?

Moving on to the good of this album, “I Need A Girl” is the first down to earth love ballad that shows up, and features more alternative guitar-laced production that you would expect to hear elsewhere. “Black Roses” is even more alternative than that, and is really the first time we get to hear Trey in a completely different element. “Does He Do It” and “Be Where You Are” are more traditional, but also the biggest sounding records of his solo ballads. The album closes out strongly with a song that has been out for awhile, but “Yo Side Of The Bed” is still so smooth and so relevant to anyone who has found themselves missing an ex.

It has been too long for me to really remember Trey’s first album, but I can tell you Ready is much more advanced than his last. Trey seems to be moving in a more mature direction musically, if only he could stay away from the teeny bop stuff. You can’t really take love-making seriously when marketed to a 16 yr old, and instead of toeing that line, Trey needs to decide what kind of artist he ultimately wants to become. Until that time though, Ready is solid enough to buy and should please most Trey Songz fans. I give this album a 3/5.

Drake - So Far Gone EP (Album Review)

There are several terms that come to mind when I am cogitating of how to set forth this redeeming album. Do I dare say that this EP is one of the best of all time? I would be hard pressed to say that, especially because there are so many prime albums out there. I will go as far to say that this EP was up there on the “Greatest EP's” list. Friends of mine ask me why I have been on the Drizzy bandwagon ever since Comeback Season dropped, and this is the perfect reason why. What many people out there don’t realize is that Drake can sing and rap. Since he can do this, it makes him one of the most versatile artists in the game. On the extended play, and what makes it such a great EP as a whole is that Drake sings the hooks, and raps his lyrics with a placid voice. He possesses a unique style that is rare and there is only one other musician in the game right now who I think is as versatile or possibly more versatile then Drake.
If you haven’t picked up your Drizzy EP yet, then there is truly something wrong with you. Although it wasn't a full album and was music off of his mixtape, the EP was epic. I give this album an 4/5, hands down. There really is no other grade to give this album, from the production to the lyrical scheme, to the cover and story the album tells, its definitely worth an 4/5! If you don’t have the album, then you need to go to your local music store, iTunes, or Amazon, and pick this album up, you are seriously missing out. Support the artists who make great music, buy the album, and show your love the right way.

Do we have some SAD news for you. Yesterday popular Atlanta rapper DJ Unk was rushed to the hospital after having difficulty breathing and an irregular heartbeat.

Luckily for him, the doctors were able to catch what the problem was before it was too late. He announced on his twitter that it was a heartattack. Word is that in recent months he’d been going overboard on the Kush and the Lean – and it all caught up with him.

Chris Brown starts Community Service

Chris Brown was formally sentenced today to 5 years probation and six months community labor in the Rihanna assault case. As part of his sentence, he must perform hard labor at the Commonwealth Catholic Charities in Richmond and attend a domestic violence course for a year. He must also stay 100 yards away from Rihanna unless they are attending an entertainment related event. He then would have to stay 10 yards away. The judge issued a stern warning to Chris regarding hearsay and rumors that the two may have hooked up despite the protective order:

You understand that I am issuing a protective order. You understand what that means? I’m not one to ever believe in any hearsay or anything of that matter but I’m not immune from the chatter that has been on the airwaves. Any violation of this protective order is a violation of your probation. Your attorney has appeared in front of me many times. He knows I will take that very very seriously. Remember, even though you have probation, this is a felony and it does come with the potential of state prison if you shall violate in any way the terms and conditions if this probation or pick up any new case.

The protective order lasts for a duration of 5 years and hopefully Chris doesn’t land his butt in prison by creeping with Rihanna during that time. No nookie is worth going to jail over. I predict she will eventually have her lawyers attempt to lift the order.

Juelz Santana, the rapper who's collaborated with Chris Brown, Sean Kingston and Cam'ron, was arrested at his home in New Jersey -- after his wife told cops he threatened to kill her!

Cops tell us they showed up at Santana's Teaneck home around 10:30 this morning after his wife called 911.

According to law enforcement sources, James' wife did not need medical assistance -- but she told police the threat was made in front of a child.

The rapper was arrested on domestic charges and is still in police custody.

Reports are coming in that rapper, Eminem has died in a car crash.

Rumors about Eminem’s death are spreading like fire across the web, but we at MusicJunkie, a reliable source for news, confirms that he is not dead and it is just a hoax.

On the other hand, Mariah Carey's husband Nick Cannon has hinted the singer's war of words with ex-boyfriend Eminem is one big publicity stunt for the pair.

Eminem struck the first blow against the Honey hitmaker by discussing their brief fling in his recent track 'Bagpipes from Baghdad'.

The lyrics included the line, "Nick Cannon you prick, I wish you luck with the f**in' whore."

Carey retaliated by mimicking Eminem in the video for her latest track 'Obsessed', and dubbing him "delusional" in the lyrics.

This prompted Eminem to strike back again in a new song called 'The Warning', in which he threatens to release voicemail messages he alleges she left for him during their relationship.

Critics have suggested the battle has been orchestrated to promote Eminem and Carey's new albums - and Cannon appears to agree.

He tells Us Weekly, "My wife doesn't beef (feud). She's Mariah Carey. She's not beef'in. She's vegetarian."
